How to: S-Bend with Holly Kennedy

S-Bend with Holly Kennedy

This summer we had the North Kiteboarding teamrider Holly Kennedy visit us and we decided to do something special so we are very excited to release our latest instructional which covers the S-Bend. This freestyle move is one of the first moves you will learn after your unhooked Railey (which we covered in last weeks video) and will require more dedication and skill.

Team rider opinions on the King of Pop – Vegas 2016

North Vegas 2016

While we are eagerly awaiting our new Vegas 2016 shipment, it’s interesting to follow some of the opinions that the North Kiteboarding teamriders have on this kite. Obviously you will not read anything negative, after all this is advertising but as always, if you read between the lines and especially read what Colleen says then you can get a good picture of what has changed and improved on the ultimate freestyle kite.

The main difference is that you will get loads of slack after the initial pop and that hopefully will not come at the expense of getting you arms torn out of their shoulder sockets, something that many other freestyle kites suffer from. If the pull on loading the kite and during the pop is a progressive increase, then it is much more manageable for normal human beings, rather than only by kiting pros who do nothing all day but bust out 5s and 7s.

This is also why we suggest to closely follow Colleens comments since she is the female rider of the bunch and thankfully by not being the usual token girl in a team, she can ride with power too. The key thing to read here is that if you ride into a trick with sufficient power/speed, you will get the slack moment which enables the easy passes.

Other comments such as Reno’s “lot of boost for hangtime” are a bit more marketing since the Vegas is no hangtime kite but in his defence I have to say if you really know how to jump properly, you do boost super high which will give you a bit more hangtime.

So all in all, we are super excited to get to test the Vegas ourselves and will be writing here about it very soon.

How to: Unhooked Railey with

How to: UNhooked Railey

Today is a special day for us because we are releasing our first instructional video that covers how to unhook and with that your first unhooked move, the classic Railey!

So if you ever felt like entering the world of freestyle, this is your ticket and once you are unhooked, you will be hooked 😉

The North Kiteboarding Movie – Beyond

North just released their new video “Beyond” which features some stunning shots and moves from the NKB team. While your average kitesurf movie would start to get a bit repetitive around the 3 minute mark, this one is actually so good that the 10 minutes most definitely are too short!

For the old timers in us, you will probably remember the original Los Roques kitesurf movie, Space Monkeys and while “Beyond” is very different, certain homage shots as seen above at the airport, should instil some nostalgia.

As always, there is the token female rider and again, leaning on Space Monkeys, the obligatory bum shot. But unlike the female rider in the latest F-One video, Colleen Carroll is not just eye candy, she absolutely kicks ass!

Beyond North Kiteboarding

Looks like North is firing on all cylinders and straight after releasing their Vegas 2016 presentation, we get a teaser for what looks like a kitesurfing movie / advert. By the looks of the Vegas video and the teaser, it was probably all shot the during the same trip through Los Roques and Coche which was also the dream spot that featured in one of the first ever kitesurfing movies, Space Monkeys. If so, then we might finally get a major kitesurf brand that can match the high production value of the beautiful F-One videos.

The King of Pop is here – Vegas 2016

Finally the new North Vegas 2016 is out and I can hardly believe my eyes because it actually does not look like it has been designed during somebodies LSD trip! Furthermore, the Hadlow branding has been reduced quite a bit, so now if you want to distinguish your Vegas from the rest, it will have to be blue since all others don’t have the Hadlow print on it.

But enough pub surfer talk, now to the important stuff. The kite is really geared to the wakestylers and offers just like last year a multitude of setting options. Using various attachment points on the front, rear and different line lengths + different center line “V” / Hadlow bridles, you can fine tune this kite to make it fit your riding style, not the other way around. This is much more in line what you would expect from a specialized kite and if you just want to keep it simple, the Dice is a much better choice for you.

Improvements over the 2015 are mainly details such as overall stiffer frame, improved strut attachments / re-enforcements and the clever fast pump valve that now is standard on all North kites. Probably the least visible improvement are the 3D shaped panels that now give the kite a smoother profile with less drag. While this sounds like marketing blah, it actually is quite necessary because the 2016 Vegas sits even deeper in the window as you ride normally and when you load for your pop, the kite needs to accelerate out of the powerzone to pull you out. The faster the kite can do that, the more pop you will have and the more slack you will get after the pop since the kite has moved even closer to the edge of the window.

If you are thinking “sure, whatevs man” then have a look at the video, especially at 1:45 where you can clearly see how the kite just rips the rider out of the water and lets him drop into the bar just a second later.

King of pop Vegas 2016

Of course you still need to do a proper load and pop, no kite can do that for you but the Vegas 2016 will help to make it bigger and give you plenty of time to pass the bar.

What am I hearing you say? Struggling with your load and pop? Well don’t miss out on our instructional that will help you with that and of course you could always join one of our kite clinics in October in Essaouira
